AltaRock Energy and Davenport Newberry shared an exciting year at the Newberry Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) Demonstration site near La Pine, Oregon. The Department of Energy (DOE)-sponsored project, aimed at developing EGS technology to the benefit of the public at large, has been underway since November 2009.

Careful planning, methodical execution, community involvement and an ideal geologic setting poise this project to make a significant breakthrough in the world of clean energy—emphasis on world, because its success would reach far beyond Alta Rock Energy and Davenport Newberry.

Past, Present, and Future Land Use at the Newberry Demonstration Site

The Newberry EGS Demonstration site is located on a federal geothermal lease just outside the Newberry National Volcanic Monument within the Deschutes National Forest. Land in this area has been recognized for its high geothermal potential since the 1970s, and since that time, local, state, and federal agencies have issued and monitored geothermal leases to several companies, including Davenport Power.
