Newberry EGS Demonstration: Recovery Act Helps Move Energy Forward
One tenet of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is to finance developments contributing to the nation's future economic growth. Specific to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the act addressed seven areas: energy efficiency, environmental clean-up, modernizing the electric grid, carbon capture and storage, transportation, science and innovation, and renewable energy.

One concern occasionally voiced by those new to the Newberry EGS Demonstration is that of potential seismic activity, or tiny earthquakes, triggered by the demonstration's operations. "Seismic activity" sounds scary, but most people have very little feel for how the Richter scale corresponds to real-life events.
